According to Sgt. Williams, 'We want to be responsive to our citizens, and we believe this online system will help us achieve that goal.' With the new platform, residents can file incident reports from the comfort of their own homes, eliminating the need to physically visit a police department or wait in line. This not only saves time but also allows officers to focus on more pressing matters.

The online Athens police blotter 2021 currently features eleven types of incidents that can be reported digitally, including thefts, vandalism, and accidents. Citizens can access the platform by visiting the police website or by calling to receive a link to file their report.

'We're excited about this new tool because it allows people to report incidents at any time, from anywhere,' said Sgt. Williams. 'No longer do they have to get dressed and come to the police department, which often takes them away from what we consider 'policing' – being out on the streets, interacting with citizens, and addressing community concerns.'

County Manager Blaine Williams emphasized the importance of having officers on the ground, conducting actual policing. 'It's crucial that our officers are not tied up at a desk or in a lobby taking reports, which can take 30 to 40 minutes,' he said.
